Civility and Respect Pledge
This details whether the council has signed the Civility and Respect pledge. This is a project between NALC, SLCC and OVW to help councils show their zero tolerance for bullying, harassment and intimidation in local councils.
Civility and Respect Pledge
Yattendon Parish Council is committed to treating councillors, clerks, employees, members of the public, and representatives of partner organisations with civility and respect in all our dealings.
As part of our commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive culture, the Parish Council formally adopted the Civility and Respect Pledge at its meeting held on 10th November 2022.
This initiative, led by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), and One Voice Wales (OVW), aims to support councils in demonstrating high standards of behaviour and governance.
By signing the pledge, the council has agreed that it will:
- has put in place a training programme for councillors and staff
- has signed up to the Code of Conduct for councillors
- has good governance arrangements in place including staff contracts and a Dignity at Work policy
- will seek professional help at early stages should civility and respect issues arise
- will commit to calling out bullying and harassment if and when it happens
- will continue to learn from best practice in the sector and aspire to being a role model / champion council e.g., via Local Council Award Scheme
- supports the continued lobbying for change in legislation to support the civility and respect, including sanctions for elected members where appropriate
We believe that adopting the Civility and Respect Pledge strengthens our ability to work effectively and collaboratively on behalf of our residents and reinforces our dedication to good governance and community leadership.
